At one of their coffee dates, Miranda tells the girls that she and Steve have not had sex in six months, and shortly afterwards Steve confesses he had sex with another woman one time out of frustration. Sadly, we also learn that Steve's mother, Mary, is living in a home following her stroke, as she now suffers from advancing Alzheimer's. We learn that she is still employing Magda. In Sex and the City (film), Miranda is still married to Steve, and they are living in Brooklyn with their son Brady, who is now five years old. Of the four women, she is the first to purchase an apartment (an indicator of her success), which she gives up when she moves into a Brooklyn townhouse in the final season to make room for her growing family. The birth of her son, Brady Hobbes, brings up new issues for her Type A, workaholic personality, but she eventually finds a way to balance career, being single, and motherhood. In the early seasons she is portrayed as misandric and distrustful and resentful of men, but this image softens over the years, particularly after she becomes pregnant by her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Steve Brady, whom she eventually marries.

A 1990 Harvard University law graduate from the Philadelphia area, she is Carrie's confidante and voice of reason. "The reason he sticks in my head a little bit is that the scene Cynthia Nixon did for her audition is the one with him where she says something like, 'Keep your hands where I can see them,'" says Jennifer, noting that she learned this bit of info while doing research for her book.Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) is a career-minded lawyer with extremely cynical views on relationships and men. Jennifer Keishin Armstrong, author of Sex and the City and Us, believes Skipper got canned along with some of the show's earlier conventions - breaking the fourth wall, man on the street interviews - as it evolved into more of a dramedy. "I can't believe he left me!" Couldn't she have done the same for Skipper? If Stanford suddenly stopped participating in Carrie's life, she'd mention it at brunch, right? "Stanford moved to L.A.," she'd whine, probably hijacking someone else's attempt to talk about vulvodynia or whatever. Susan is right in her assessment of Miranda and Skipper's compatibility - Miranda would have eaten him alive - but surely some kind of excuse could have been given for his disappearance.

The only other recurring Carrie friend introduced in the pilot is Stanford Blatch, and he made it not only to the end of the series but to both movies as well. Miranda had crushed Skipper's heart into a million pieces by that point (recall the time he broke up with a woman mid-coitus just because Miranda called), but this was still unusual because he'd been introduced as a friend of Carrie's and not a love interest. Played by Ben Weber, Skipper was a 27-year-old "website creator" who debuted in the pilot and appeared throughout season one, then vanished without explanation after popping up in one last episode in late season two. All of these were definitively resolved, save for one - Miranda's love affair with Skipper Johnston. Carrie had Aidan, Berger, and Big, Charlotte had Trey and Harry, and so on.

Throughout six seasons of Sex and the City the main foursome had a ton of flings, but only a handful of their relationships lasted longer than an episode or two.
